Not really what you want to see inside an engine - it transpires that very clean aluminium and air moisture are not a great mix. When I removed the inlet manifold I discovered what looked like Jelly in some places and a crystal growth in others (presumably dried out jelly). I guess this is one reason to start your engine regularly...
