This is the Rusty Metal Gallery
I thought my car was fairly free from rust, however there were many hidden horrors, underneath the factory fitted sound deadening, the panels had corroded, beneath what looked like good paint were bodged repairs and there were leaks that rain water had discovered and then sat behind interior trim slowly eating the metal. The pictures may help other people look for rust in a prospective purchase or even to do a double check on the cars they are restoring themselves
nearside general view
Passenger foot well – its hard to see but there is a fair amount of corrosion where the inner sill meets the floor
SunVisor Panel
leaks past the windscreen seal clearly corroded all the surrounding metal too. Quite a few pin holes that luckily I could blob weld and then protect
offside seatbelt – hole in rear panel
drivers seat belt mount – not sill repair and un-repaired bulkhead
offside rear transmission area
It looked fine when you can only see the top side of the sound deadening tar
offside radius arm patched 2
small hole in front of radius arm – not good and you can see a patch repair panel close to the radius arm mount too
offside quarter panel
more crash damage poorly repaired with fibreglass and then covered with underseal to hide it
offside front footwell
It took a bit of work but with the sound deadening tar removed – there was a fair amount of surface rust
offside frint foot well – patches
a average repair along the inner sill – but i want to remove it to see what damage is hiding behind it
nearside footwell
nearside footwell – a common rust point when the engine frame bolts to the bulkhead
